梅尼爾氏症並非罕見疾病，不只日本藝人今井翼，台灣藝人江蕙、伍佰、范曉萱等，也都有梅尼爾氏症病史。資深耳鼻喉科醫師李宏信表示，梅尼爾氏症是一種內耳性疾病，又稱為「內耳淋巴水腫」，由於內耳過度腫脹，壓迫內耳神經即使平衡系統受干擾，患者很容易眩暈、耳鳴，有時感覺耳朵悶悶的，聽力也會受影響。不少患者一開始只有一耳出現症狀，隨著病情惡化，兩耳都出問題，症狀持續時間從20分鐘到數小時不等，發作間隔也不定，復發率極高，甚至可能對聽覺造成永久性傷害。
李宏信告誡，無論是藝人或上班族，因為壓力大、緊張、焦慮、睡眠不足、飲食過油、過鹹等因素，阻塞血管或異常收縮，引起組織貧血而神經破壞。內耳有豐富的血管、神經，由於內耳系統與人體的平衡感、聽力有關，當血液、養分供應不足，長時間下來，內耳三半規管就可能發生淋巴液過多症，進而固致積水、腫脹，患者常會刺激內耳神經而出現眩暈、耳鳴、重聽等症狀。
